Singapore’s Pontiac Land announced on Tuesday that part of its offering at the new Fari Islands resort complex in the Maldives would be a Patina Hotels & Resorts-branded hotel. That move was followed by an announcement on Wednesday of the relaunch of the Patina brand by Pontiac Land’s Capella Hotel Group.
If that sounds familiar, though, it’s because the brand has been around for several years. Pontiac Land retained the name after an abortive joint venture to start the lifestyle brand in Singapore in 2016, according to a November 2019 HOTELS story.
The new iteration, Patina Maldives, is scheduled to open in Q4 2020; it will have 90 beach and water villas, ranging from one to three bedrooms, and 20 “Fari Studios,” designed by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan.
“Patina Hotels & Resorts will become a new leader in progressive hospitality,” Capella CEO Nicholas Clayton said in a press release. “Focusing on creating a seamless experience, the brand is refreshing, dynamic and modern, appealing to the blended lifestyle of today’s curious and conscious consumer. We look forward to bringing the Patina vision to life when we open Patina Maldives later this year.”
Patina properties in Ubud, Bali, and Sanya, China, are in development, the company said. “Inspired by independent minds with a deep appreciation of culture and community and an unwavering devotion to the wellbeing of the planet, Patina Hotels & Resorts encourages guests to nurture a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them,” according to the press release. “Located in extraordinary urban and natural landscapes, Patina brings unexpected, sophisticated and fresh experiences together to reveal layers of possibility.”
Fari Islands, an archipelago in the Maldives’ North Malé Atoll, also will include a Capella Hotels & Resorts property and a Ritz-Carlton, all managed by Patina, along with a marina, F&B options and Fari Village for employees.
