Briefs: The Luxury Collection adds second hotel in Indonesia; Stonebridge’s new president, CEO

THE LUXURY COLLECTION OPENS SECOND INDONESIA LOCATION: The Luxury Collection, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of more than 30 hotel brands, has opened its second property in Indonesia with the launch of TA’AKTANA, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Labuan Bajo. The waterfront property is Marriott’s first property in Labuan Bajo. Surrounded by forests and the Flores Sea, the resort is situated close to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Komodo National Park and other popular attractions. Spread across 16 hectares, the resort has been designed by ANP Interiors and features 70 rooms, including 24 villas and 45 suites with outdoor balconies. The resort also has seven overwater villas. Guests staying at villas have access to a dedicated 24-hour butler. TA’AKTANA includes three restaurants, a lounge and bar, a fitness center and a spa with six treatment rooms and plunge pool.

STONEBRIDGE COMPANIES NAMES PRESIDENT, CEO: Stonebridge Companies, the Denver-based privately-owned management company, has appointed Rob Smith as president and CEO. Set to join in July, Smith will oversee the company’s operations, helm the development and execution of strategies and report to Stonebridge’s board of directors. He will be succeeding Navin Dimond, who founded Stonebridge in 1991 and will be promoted to the role of chairman upon Smith’s appointment. Smith’s career spans roughly 30 years and he has most recently served as division president for Aimbridge Hospitality. Prior to that, he spent around 20 years in the Caribbean, where he held positions at several resort properties and served the island of Aruba as president and CEO of the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association and Aruba Convention Bureau. Currently, he serves on the AHLA Board of Directors, Marriott Rooms Advisory Board and the Westin Brand Advisory Board.

U.S. PERFORMANCE UPDATE: The hotel industry in the U.S. saw mixed performance results from last week but positive comparisons YOY, according to CoStar’s data through May 25.

  • Occupancy: 67.7% (+1.6%)
  • ADR: $160.67 (+2.3%)
  • RevPAR: $108.73 (+3.9%)

Among the top 25 markets, Houston recorded the highest YOY gains in occupancy (+20.9% to 74.1%) and RevPAR (+29.2% to $89.15). Las Vegas saw the only double-digit increase in ADR (+10.9% to $217.53). The steepest RevPAR declines were seen in Detroit (-13% to $80.20) and San Francisco (-8.3% to $136.79).

TPG TO MANAGE TWO WASHINGTON, D.C. HOTELS: TPG Hotels & Resorts has been selected to manage two upscale, independent hotels in Washington, D.C. – The Glover Park Hotel and The Graham Hotel. Both hotels are located in the Georgetown neighborhood and will join TPG’s INTERA Collection. The Glover Park is a boutique hotel with 154 rooms and offers views of the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument. The hotel includes a fitness center, spa, dining venues and about 1,800 square feet of meeting space. The Graham Hotel comprises 57 rooms and suites, with some featuring private decks and terraces. The hotel is located close to popular attractions. TPG’s portfolio currently comprises more than 600 branded and independent hotels and marinas totaling over 65,000 rooms across 42 states.

SONESTA SIGNS FIRST IN MEXICO: Sonesta International Hotels Corp. has executed a deal for the upcoming Costa Sur Resort – Classico, A Sonesta Collection. The 206-key oceanfront, upscale property sits on a private beach overlooking the Banderas Bay, south of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. This will be Sonesta’s first hotel in Mexico. The resort will be renovated and rebranded to join the upper-upscale Classico brand later this year. Each room at the all-suite property will have balconies. Guests can snorkel onsite at the resort’s private beach and ocean lagoon.
