SONESTA SIMPLY SUITES ADDS FOUR PROPERTIES: Sonesta International Hotels Corp. has added four new Sonesta Simply Suites locations to its portfolio. The four extended stay properties include a 104-room hotel in Lafayette, La.; a 72-room hotel in Memphis, Tenn.; an 82-room hotel in Stafford, Texas; and a 122-room hotel in Lansing, Ill. With these properties, Sonesta has opened more than 20 hotels this year. Currently, there are Sonesta Simply Suites hotels in more than 65 locations.

TIVOLI HOTELS DEBUTS IN SPAIN: Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, part of Minor Hotels, has announced the opening of its first property in Spain with Tivoli La Caleta Tenerife Resort in the Canary Islands. The luxury resort has rebranded to the Tivoli brand and earlier operated as La Caleta Resort under the Sheraton brand. Located in southern Tenerife, the resort underwent extensive renovations to reopen under Tivoli. The luxury resort features 284 rooms (including 20 suites), 12,917 square feet of indoor and outdoor facilities (consisting of a spa, wellness area with 10 treatment rooms, indoor pool, sauna, steam bath and ice igloo), a gym and three recently refurbished heated pools. The resort also offers three dining venues and more than 9,580 square feet of meeting spaces with views of the Atlantic Ocean.
U.S. PERFORMANCE UPDATE: Hotel performance in the U.S. improved from last week, but YOY comparisons remain mixed, according to CoStar’s data through October 14.

Among the top 25 markets, Oahu Island posted the biggest YOY increases in occupancy (+17.8% to 85.2%) and RevPAR (+29.7% to $243.22). Las Vegas saw the highest lift in ADR (+14.7% to $226.94) and the second-largest jump in RevPAR (+21.1% to $199.88). New Orleans recorded the steepest RevPAR decline (-28.3% to $107.38).
APPLE HOSPITALITY ACQUIRES IN SALT LAKE CITY: Apple Hospitality REIT, Inc. has acquired two hotels in Downtown Salt Lake City. Apple Hospitality acquired the 175-room Courtyard by Marriott Salt Lake City Downtown for $48.1 million ($275,000 per key) and the 159-room Hyatt House Salt Lake City/Downtown for $34.3 million ($215,000 per key) along with a corresponding 346-space parking garage for $9.1 million. The parking space caters to both hotels and the surrounding area. With these two acquisitions, Apple Hospitality’s portfolio comprises 222 hotels totaling 29,263 rooms across 37 states. Apple Hospitality also announced it had two more hotels under contract for purchase — the 146-key Residence Inn by Marriott Seattle South/Renton for $55.5 million and the 192-key Embassy Suites by Hilton South Jordan Salt Kale City for $36.8 million. If all conditions are met, Apple Hospitality will acquire these two properties by Q4 2023.
OMNI HOTELS BREAKS GROUND ON MEXICAN RESORT: Omni Hotels & Resorts has broken ground on Omni Pontoque Resort at Punta de Mita, which marks the brand’s first luxury resort in Mexico. The $25-million-dollar development is expected to be completed in 2026. The beachfront property will have 244 rooms and suites and two four-bedroom villas with views of the Pacific Ocean. Amenities include three restaurant and bar concepts with casual dining options, a destination spa with 14 treatment rooms, two retail shops, multiple pools with adults-only and family-friendly options, a fitness center and a kid’s club. Additionally, the resort will offer more than 27,000 square feet of meeting and event space with a 6,000-square-foot ballroom and dedicated meeting rooms with event lawns and pre-function spaces offering jungle and ocean views. Omni Hotels has collaborated with hospitality professionals, such as The Beck Group, Farouki Farouki, Girvin Associates Inc., HKS Architects, Robert Glazier Architects and Waldrop & Nichols Studio, to develop the resort.
