Briefs: San Diego Springhill Suites completes construction; JW Marriott adds in Kenya

SPRINGHILL SUITES IN SAN DIEGO: R.D. Olson Construction has completed the construction of Eastlake’s Springhill Suites by Marriott in eastern Chula Vista, Calif. The new, 127,627 square foot, all-suite hotel features 179 rooms and took a little over 18 months to complete. Located 13 miles from the San Diego Bay, the hotel is close to recreation options at Otay Lake and the Otay Open Space Preserve. The five-story hotel includes 1,900 square feet of meeting and event space, a pool, media and television lounge and a 1,095-square-foot fitness center. The hotel includes 930 square feet of dining space, a separate 490-square-foot dining room, full-service bar and lounge, 1,500 square feet of covered patio seating and 10 EV charging stations. R.D. Olson partnered with Lee & Sakahara Architects and The Design Studio Interior Designer on the hotel.

JW MARRIOTT EXPANDS IN KENYA: JW Marriott has expanded its portfolio in Kenya with the opening of its second hotel — JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi. One of the tallest hotels in the country, the 35-story hotel is located in Nairobi’s Westlands commercial district. The hotel has 315 guestrooms, five dining options, a spa, pool, fitness center and eight event spaces spread over 1,700 square meters. An additional 51 serviced apartments and a sky bar and lounge is scheduled to open later this year.

VOCO SIGNS SECOND JAPAN HOTEL: IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed its first management agreement with Samty K.K. to open a voco-branded hotel in Hiroshima. Slated to open in mid 2027, the 301-room new-build voco Hiroshima will be part of the urban development located next to Hiroshima Station. The hotel will be situated on the former Saigoku Kaido, an Edo Period highway, and located close to the Atomic Bomb Dome. The hotel will have an outdoor café, meeting space and other common areas. voco Hiroshima will be the brand’s second property in Japan, following the brand’s first opening in 2022 in Osaka. Launched in 2018, voco has 62 hotels globally, with an additional 74 properties expected to open in the next few years. In Japan, IHG currently operates 47 hotels, with eight more expected to open by 2025.

AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION TO LAUNCH IN AUSTRIA: Imperial Riding School, Autograph Collection is scheduled to open in Ungargasse in Vienna this May. This will be Autograph Collection’s first property in Austria. The former imperial and royal military riding school has been redesigned by London-headquartered design company Goddard Littlefair and transformed into a hotel. The 19th century military equestrian school, founded by Franz Joseph I, was initially converted into a cinema before being transformed into a hotel. The hotel features 342 rooms with an equestrian-influenced design concept, a garden, wellness area spanning 450 square meters which includes a pool and a fitness area with a steam rooms and sauna. The hotel includes a restaurant, bar and meetings and events area for up to 375 persons.
