Briefs: Quadrum Global completes The Williamsburg acquisition; The Chedi in AlUla

QUADRUM GLOBAL COMPLETES THE WILLIAMSBURG ACQUISITION: Quadrum Global, a development, investment management and advisory group, has completed the $96 million acquisition of The Williamsburg Hotel in Brooklyn, N.Y. The eight-story industrial-style brick building housing the hotel, which initially opened as The Williamsburg Hotel in 2017, features 147 rooms (including eight suites), a 6,500-square-foot grand ballroom, a 1,250-square-foot restaurant, a 3,000-square-foot lobby bar and lounge, a water-tower rooftop bar and a 10,000-square-foot rooftop lounge and pool area offering 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline. This marks the company’s fourth hotel in New York City. Quadrum Global is also the owner and developer of Arlo Soho, Arlo Nomad and Arlo Midtown. Quadrum Global opened Arlo Chicago earlier this month and developed and opened Arlo Wynwood in November 2022.

The Chedi Hegra in AlUla, Saudi Arabia

RCU ANNOUNCES THE CHEDI HEGRA: The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has entered into a partnership with luxury hotel operator GHM to develop The Chedi Hegra in a part of AlUla’s Hegra UNESCO World Heritage Site in northwest Saudi Arabia. This will be the first hotel on the ancient Nabataean site. Slated to open in Q4 2023, the hotel will feature 35 luxury rooms, three fine dining restaurants, a cafĂ©, a full-service spa and a pool. RCU is building the hotel directly into many existing structures, including a former railway station, Hegra Fort, surrounding buildings and others. Exterior and structural walls are being preserved and integrated with modern architecture. The majority of the UNESCO World Heritage Site will be preserved by RCU and will remain untouched by construction.

JW MARRIOTT DEBUTS IN GOA: JW Marriot, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of 30 brands, has opened JW Marriott Goa, marking the brand’s debut in Goa, India. The opening also marks Marriott International’s 150t opening in South Asia. Located on the coastline of Vagator, the new hotel consists of 151 rooms, four dining outlets, a spa, a gym, an entertainment center with virtual reality games, a bowling alley and a children’s play area. The hotel also offers 18,752 square feet of event spaces, including two meeting rooms and the 4,607 square feet ballroom with an outdoor terrace. Currently, there are over 100 JW Marriott hotels across more than 35 countries.

MARRIOTT BONVOY’S NEW CAMPAIGN: Marriott Bonvoy has launched its new global marketing campaign, “Roam Around The World,” which is a nod to nostalgia and a call to travel. The campaign was created along with the creative content and production company SuperBloom House. The campaign is anchored by a series of creative covers of “Roam,” the travelogue by B-52, the New Wave band. Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio includes over 8,000 properties, including over 500 independent hotels and a large collection of luxury offerings. Some of the experiences include W Sound Suite (W’s signature, on-site recording studio for professional and novice musicians), Westin Hotels & Resorts’ Gear Lending program (which provides recovery and strength training tools), Moxy Hotels’ check-in at the bar, Instagram-worthy destinations (including Hotel Riomar, Ibiza, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel), a variety of UNESCO World Heritage Sites (including Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Budapest) and Marriott’s debut in the luxury safari segment (with the opening of JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge in Kenya).

BWH’S SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVES: BWH Hotel Group is doubling down on its ESG commitments and has created a new global sustainability strategic initiative called “Because We Care.”, which will focus on three areas — Earth, People and Community. The group is celebrating the effort in close to 100 countries. With nine hotels in British Columbia, Canada, joining the WorldHotels Collection, Prestige Hotels & Resorts is committed to the GreenStep Sustainable Tourism program, with Sustainable Tourism Certifications across its properties. The Best Western Plus Kamloops Hotel in Kamloops, British Columbia, is a Green Key-rated and biosphere-committed property. In Britain, BWH has partnered with QIA Services, an independent rating body, for all its hotels in the country. Best Western Hotel Mediterraneo in Castelldefels, Spain, recently received the Biosphere Sustainable Certified achievement. Caravelle Saigon in Vietnam, a member of the WorldHotels Elite Collection, has received the Earth Check gold certificate.
