Briefs: NoMad opens in NYC; AC Hotels by Marriott debuts in Malta

NOMAD OPENS IN NYC: AKA has grown its presence further in New York City’s Midtown with the opening of Hotel AKA NoMad. Located on Madison Avenue in the NoMad neighborhood, the hotel marks architect Piero Lissoni of Lissoni New York’s first hotel in New York City and the second hotel in the U.S. A Lissoni-designed floating staircase serves as the hotel lobby’s focal point. The hotel has 178 rooms, with many suites on the building’s upper floors offering views of the Empire State Building. The hotel also features a wine bar, guest library, gym, social wellness club and a terrace featuring a cinema.  

AC HOTELS BY MARRIOTT DEBUTS IN MALTA: AC Hotels by Marriott has grown its European presence with the opening of its first hotel in Malta. Located in the coastal town of St. Julian’s, AC Hotel by Marriott St. Julian offers 106 rooms and suites. The new lifestyle hotel’s design has been led by Italy-based architecture and design firm Fabris & Partners. The hotel includes a lounge on the rooftop terrace, a heated outdoor rooftop pool, an indoor pool, a meeting space with seating for up to 40 persons and a gym. This is the third property of Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott’s loyalty program, in Malta. Currently, AC Hotels’ portfolio comprises 225 hotels in 31 countries.  

AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION OPENS RESORT IN ST.THOMAS: Morningstar Buoy Haus Beach Resort at Frenchman’s Reef, Autograph Collection has opened at Frenchman’s Reef in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The resort is part of an extensive $425 million rebuild project at Frenchman’s Reef and is operated by Aimbridge Hospitality. The property features architecture by Kolin Altomare and The Johnson Studio, with Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence having worked on culinary and public space concepts. The latest entrant to Marriott’s Autograph Collection Hotels, the property offers 94 rooms, including two suites. Guests of Buoy Haus will be able to access amenities at the adjoining resort, The Westin Beach Resort & Spa at Frenchman’s Reef, which will open shortly.  

CURIO COLLECTION BY HILTON ADDS TO PORTFOLIO: Quorum Hotels & Resorts has announced that the Inn at the Pier in Pismo Beach, Calif., has joined the Curio Collection by Hilton portfolio. Owned by Somera Capital Management, the 104-room hotel is operated by Quorum and designed by Level 3 Design Group. The hotel is undergoing an extensive multi-million-dollar conversion and renovation of its rooms and suites, 1,200 square feet of meeting space, fitness center and lobby. A new full-service lobby bar has been added, and a new rooftop restaurant and bar will open later this summer.  

AMEK GROUP, MAJESTIC HOSPITALITY PARTNER: AMEK Group, the Miami, Fla.-based consulting and management hospitality firm, and Majestic Hospitality Group, a Los Angeles-based full-service hotel development company and consultancy form, have launched AMEK Development.
