Kahala roams to Japan: Resorttrust Inc., a Nagoya, Japan-based hotel operator and developer, will open the 146-room Kahala Hotel & Resort Yokohama in June 2020 at the city’s Minato Mirai waterfront district. The news marks the first time the famed Oahu-based brand has moved outside of Hawaii. The total project cost is estimated at approximately US$408 million. Resorttrust acquired The Kahala & Resort in Oahu in 2014 for US$282.5 million.
Industry event leaves Hong Kong: Due to political unrest in Hong Kong, the Global Wellness Summit announced the location of the 2019 GWS will move from Hong Kong to Singapore. The event will now take place at Grand Hyatt Singapore, October 15–17, 2019. “In an effort to ensure travel is as seamless as possible in and out of the Global Wellness Summit, our GWS leadership, advisory board and partners felt this shift in location was important for the collective wellbeing of everyone involved with the Summit,” said Susie Ellis, chairman and CEO of GWS.
Curio Collection coming to Arizona: Phoenix-based Opwest Partners and Hilton announced that they will bring a 169-room Curio Collection by Hilton hotel to Old Town Scottsdale’s Entertainment District in Arizona. The hotel is slated to open in early 2021 and Opwest is developing the project alongside Argosy Real Estate Partners.
