Briefs: JW Marriott in Greece; Atwell Suites grows portfolio

JW MARRIOTT TO LAUNCH IN GREECE: JW Marriott will soon be opening its first location in Greece. Marriott international, Inc. has partnered with Vasilakis SA to open JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa. Slated to open in 2025, the property will be spread over 100 acres of coastal land. SWOT Hospitality will collaborate with Marriott and Vasilakis SA as the third-party operator for the franchised hotel. Designed by architecture company Block722, the hotel will feature 160 luxury rooms, with all suites and villas including a private pool or jacuzzi. The property will have several wellness areas, a JW Garden, five dining options, multiple pools, a fitness center, spa and a beach club. The property will be located in the outskirts of Chania, along Marathi Beach, in Crete. Part of Marriott’s luxury brand collection, JW Marriott currently has 120 hotels across 40 countries.

ATWELL SUITES EXPANDS FOOTPRINT: Atwell Suites, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, has opened its first location in Texas. Located in Austin, Atwell Suites Austin Airport is the third property to open in the U.S., following openings in Miami and Denver. The 80-room hotel is the brand’s first conversion property and features suites with separate areas for rest and work. The property offers complimentary breakfast, a self-serve refreshment zone, shared TV lounge and a lobby area with private and shared spaces. Atwell Suites has over 40 properties in its pipeline, including latest grounbreakings in Las Vegas, Henderson, Nev., Kansas City, Mo. and Fort Worth, Texas.

MOTTO BY HILTON TO NASHVILLE: Mortenson Development has acquired a plot of land in the South of Broadway neighborhood in Nashville and closed on its construction financing. The builder and developer will begin construction of a Motto by Hilton-branded hotel later this month. This will be the lifestyle brand’s first property in the Nashville area. The hotel site is situated three blocks south of the Broadway Street and close to popular attractions. The 260-room hotel will have a flexible design, with 30% of the rooms linkable, enabling guests to adapt their room selections as per group needs. The hotel will offer a full-service restaurant, several bars, a fitness center, meeting space and common space with an outdoor patio. Mortenson is serving as the hotel’s developer and design-builder. The design team includes ESa Architects and Wild Muse Interior Design Firm.

W ASPEN SECURES REFINANCING: Northridge Capital has secured refinancing for W Aspen, the ski resort in Colorado. JLL Capital Markets arranged the refinancing for Northridge Capital and secured the loan from Riyad Bank. Opened in fall 2019, the 88-room W Aspen was among the first, new ground-up hotel development to deliver in Aspen in more than 25 years. The five-story property spans 74,184 square feet and features a rooftop deck with a heated pool and spa, three dining venues, banquet and meeting area, a gym, seasonal ski shop, rooftop cabanas and structured parking.

RENOVATIONS AT OMNI HILTON HEAD RESORT: Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort, located on the Hilton Head Island. S.C., has completed a $26-million property-wide renovation. The renovation of the 323-room resort began in August 2022, which included a refreshed front entrance, enhanced lobby, upgraded guestrooms with refreshed balconies and a bigger courtyard. The oceanfront property features five restaurants, a spa, three championship golf courses designed, 17 clay tennis courts, 24 pickleball courts, 14,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 11,000 square feet of outdoor event space; along with access to 11 lagoon trails and eastern seaboard-facing pools.
