Allegient Air checks into hotels: Las Vegas budget carrier Allegiant Air will announce plans Tuesday to build a beachfront resort with a hotel, nine condominium towers and a marina spanning 22 acres in western Florida. Construction is expected to start by mid-2018 on the Sunseeker Resort, creating a new revenue stream for Allegiant under the guidance of John Redmond, a former Las Vegas hotel executive who now works as the air carrier’s president.

Marriott in Australia: A 5-star Marriott hotel has been approved for Docklands — the first opening for the international chain in Australia in 20 years. The A$200 million ($US158 million) project is for 200 hotel rooms, 110 residential apartments and a ground-floor restaurant. The building will be near The District Docklands, the new name for the Harbour Town shopping precinct.
Bespoke managing Townhouse: Bespoke Hotels will manage Manchester’s 85-room Townhouse Hotel, a property which was acquired this month by Fragrance Group Ltd.
Florida university hotel: Florida International University is planning a US$59 million hotel and conference center in hopes of attracting more researchers, conventions and out-of-town visitors. Construction is scheduled to begin in March and the hotel is expected to be ready by June 2019, with average room rates projected to start at US$153 a night.
Aman suit: The trustee overseeing the Florida bankruptcy cases involving luxury hotel group Aman Resorts said Wednesday that a bid by Aman’s chairman, a Russian real estate tycoon, to move the cases to New York appears to be an improper attempt to thwart her claims investigation of company insiders.
Eclipse bounty: Hotels in the August 20 eclipse path of totality reported a 244% increase in revenue per available room (RevPAR) on the night before the event, according to an analysis by STR’s Consulting and Analytics team. In the three days leading up to the eclipse, hotels in the path of totality reported an 87% RevPAR increase.
