1 coming to London: Starwood Capital Group’s sustainability-driven 1 Hotels brand will debut its U.K. brand flagship, the 1 Hotel London Mayfair, in 2022. Overlooking Green Park, the 184-room hotel will be operated by the group’s management company, SH Hotels & Resorts. The hotel is part of a 260,000-square-foot mixed-use project being developed by London-based Crosstree Real Estate Partners that will include sustainably designed offices and prime retail.
Choice renews in Japan: Choice Hotels International signed a 10-year extension of its existing master franchising agreement with Choice Hotels Japan and expects to open more than 30 Comfort hotels in the market by 2033. Choice Hotels Japan has been the exclusive franchisor of the Comfort brand in the country since 2003 and has more than 60 hotels in key markets. The first seven of the new Comfort hotels are planned to open over the next three years in cities including Kyoto, Matsuyama and Nagoya. The expansion is expected to bring the number of rooms in the Comfort portfolio to more than 15,000 by 2025.
Radisson grows in Russia: Radisson Hotel Group signed a branded hotel in Russia. Set to arrive in the Urals region of the country, the newly built Radisson Hotel Perm will have 150 rooms and is due to open in late 2021. This signing brings the group’s Russian portfolio to 39 hotels and 10,320 rooms in operation or under development. Project developer Prospect Group is known for its real estate projects in Russia’s third-largest city – Yekaterinburg – and this hotel will be part of a multi-purpose development.
Kimpton heads to Key West: Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will open the 219-room Kimpton Key West in Florida in early 2020. It will mark the sixth property for the boutique hotel company in the Sunshine State and its first in the Florida Keys. The project is owned and will be developed by KHP Capital Partners.
Accor’s Q3: Accor reported Q3 results on Thursday with group revenue at €1,049 million (US$1.16 billion), up 10.9% as reported and 4.1% on a like-for-like basis. RevPAR increased by 0.7%, with performances varying by region: Europe was relatively resilient (+1.2%), while Asia-Pacific recorded a slight decline (-1.1%), mainly due to the environment in China. Accor opened 60 hotels with 8,500 rooms. At the end of September, the group’s portfolio totaled 726,345 rooms in 4,946 hotels and the pipeline represented 1,181 hotels corresponding to 205,000 rooms. New businesses (concierge services, luxury home rentals, private sales of hotel stays, and digital services for hotels) generated revenue of €42 million (US$46.4 million), up 3% on a like-for-like basis and 3.3% as reported.
Far East’s Clan: The latest brand to be added to Far East Hospitality’s portfolio, The Clan Hotel anchors the group’s vision in rethinking what luxury means for a new generation of travelers, according to the company. The first 324-room Clan property is slated to open in Q2 2020 and is being designed to connect travelers to experiences that deepen cultural connections and a sense of place. To that end, the group also introduced The Clan Keeper Collective, a network of creators of culture, tradition and craft in Singapore who will create touchpoints that represent Singapore-inspired hospitality.
Former Nazi bunker becoming hotel: The NH Hotel Group will begin construction on the Nhow Hamburg after winning the contract to build on a former Nazi bunker in Hamburg, Germany. The hotel will reportedly offer 136 rooms, a bar, coffee shop and a restaurant. It is planned to open in mid-2021. The space will also reportedly include a public rooftop park and spaces for exhibitions and a memorial for victims of the Nazi regime.
