Banyan Tree to reflag Sheraton Phuket as flagship Angsana resort

PHUKET, THAILAND Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts will take over operations of the 384-key Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket from Starwood Hotels & Resorts June 30 and will relaunch the property as the flagship Angsana-branded resort.

The property—which is currently cobranded under Starwood’s Sheraton and Luxury Collection flags—will close for an extensive US$30 million renovation of all guestrooms, meeting facilities and public spaces. When completed, the hotel will be rebranded under Banyan Tree’s Angsana Hotels & Resorts brand as Angsana Laguna Phuket. The hotel is expected to reopen on December 1.

This will be the flagship and largest resort under the Angsana brand. Located in Laguna Phuket, Asia’s first integrated resort, the property will be the fourth hotel in Thailand that is managed and operated by Banyan Tree.

“We chose Laguna Phuket in Thailand for our Angsana flagship property as that will drive our operation standards from a strong operations base, and to also set new benchmarks for 15 more Angsanas in the pipeline for the group,” says Arthur Kiong, Banyan Tree’s managing director of hotel operations in Asia Pacific.
