Aimbridge Hospitality is acquiring Grupo Hotelero Prisma, the largest third-party operator in the Mexico market with 42 properties and more than 7,500 rooms.
Among the group’s trophy properties are the Westin Monterrey, JW Marriott Monterrey, JW Marriott Guadalajara and Tribute Tulum.
“Through the years, we have received numerous requests to manage hotel and resort properties in Mexico but felt we didn’t possess the adequate resources to provide the quality of service required of investors,” Bill Stadler, chief investment officer for Aimbridge, told HOTELS on Wednesday. “Clearly, the acquisition of Prisma resolves this concern and provides a catalyst for growth of the platform across all verticals, particularly in resorts, as Prisma’s focus has historically been business transient assets. Additionally, we believe this acquisition will provide a gateway for opportunities in Central America and other Latin American countries.”
For Aimbridge Executive Chairman Dave Johnson, who transitioned from CEO last year, generating deals like this to continue expansion has been a top priority. “This new relationship sets us on a path for a successful expansion in a previously untapped market,” he said.
Grupo Hotelero Prisma has grown via alliances with large hotel groups such as IHG Hotels & Resorts, Wyndham Hotel Group, Marriott International and Hilton Worldwide. It also maintains a collection of properties operated by national Mexican brands such as Casa Grande and Ex Hacienda San Xavier.
Based in Monterrey, Grupo Hotelero Prisma employs more than 1,300 employees both in operations and corporate, sales and administrative offices. Additionally, Grupo Hotelero Prisma has central sales office in Mexico City, which services more than 300 commercial accounts in 25 market segments, including finance, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas and IT.
Through the Prisma acquisition, third-party operating giant Aimbridge also starts a relationship with Mexican hotel REIT Fibra Inn. Aimbridge will operate Fibra Inn’s substantial portfolio through this deal.
Leandro Castillo, president of Prisma Division, will report directly to Aimbridge President and CEO Mike Deitemeyer, who took over the CEO role during Dave Johnson’s transition to Executive Chairman.
Plano, Texas-based Aimbridge, now in its 18th year, has a portfolio, inclusive of pipeline, of more than 1,500 branded and independent properties in 20 countries and over 60,000 employees.
