Accor to introduce Adagio brand to Middle East

ABU DHABI Accor plans to launch its Adagio extended-stay brand in the Middle East next year with a property in Abu Dhabi.

Accor aims to open more than 80 midscale Adagio properties in Europe, the Middle East and Africa by 2014. Ten of those properties are slated for the Middle East next year, starting with the Abu Dhabi property and followed by a hotel in Saudi Arabia.

Paris-based Accor plans to launch 11 projects in the UAE during the next three years across its brand family, including five in Abu Dhabi, four in Dubai and two in Fujairah. The scheduled openings would bring Accor’s portfolio to 73 properties and 17,400 guestrooms in the Middle East and North Africa region.

However, Accor has no plans to launch its budget brands in the region in the near future. “We have midscale and economy hotels and they doing good business, but the market is not ripe to introduce budget hotels in the region,” Accor Middle East Managing Director Christophe Landais tells Khaleej Times. “Low-cost hotels are very popular in U.S., Europe and India, but the Middle East market is about luxury and upscale segments.”
