1 Hotel Hanalei Bay has announced the debut of Nature’s Wellness Sanctuary, a wellness concept on the North Shore of Kauaʻi. Opened in 2023, 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay is the Hawaiian flagship for 1 Hotels, the mission-driven luxury lifestyle brand founded by Barry Sternlicht. Nature’s Wellness Sanctuary represents an evolution in the brand’s philosophy of living in balance with nature, wellness, nutrition, and fitness, bringing together strength training, advanced recovery, diagnostics, and restorative spa therapies.
“1 Hotels was built on the idea that the natural world is wonderful and holds the secret to health and well-being for the body and the mind,” said Barry Sternlicht, founder of 1 Hotels and Chairman of Starwood Hotels. “With Nature’s Wellness Sanctuary, we took that philosophy and applied it more wholeheartedly, creating an experience where everything works together. It’s a more thoughtful, more connected approach to well-being, rooted in nature and designed to support strength, recovery, and lasting health.”
Nature’s Wellness Sanctuary is structured around four pillars. The first, Performance and Strength, centers on the 10,000-square-foot indoor-outdoor Anatomy Fitness facility, where Body Architects lead personalized training sessions supported by InBody analysis and VO₂ max assessment. The second pillar, Recovery and Restoration, is anchored by the first Hawaiian outpost of Bamford Wellness Spa, offering biophilic treatment rooms and touchless therapies including flotation therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, infrared sauna, cold plunge, cryotherapy, compression therapy and meditation pods. The third pillar, Science-Backed Health Optimization, is delivered through Vitality Kauaʻi, providing IV therapy, medical aesthetics and DEXA body composition analysis. The fourth pillar uses nature itself as a training ground, with hiking, surfing, kayaking, paddleboarding and open-water training integrated into daily programming.
Partner organizations lead each discipline. Bamford Wellness Spa was founded by Carole Bamford. Anatomy Fitness is led by former NFL player Marc Megna. Vitality Kauaʻi was founded by Dr. Betty Dilley, a board-certified physician specializing in metabolic health and longevity.
“Many wellness destinations excel in one area,” said Raul Leal, CEO of Starwood Hotels. “At 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, Nature’s Wellness Sanctuary brings together leaders at the top of their fields and designs the experience so guests can move seamlessly between them. It’s not just a collection of offerings; it’s a carefully curated ecosystem, guided by wellness experts who help synchronize the experience in a way that amplifies results.”
Retreats are designed for four nights, with additional nights available. Each guest is paired with a dedicated wellness coach. Guests not booking a full retreat may access programming on an à la carte basis. Across six restaurants and bars, tailored menu options support individual wellness goals. Nature’s Wellness Sanctuary is available across all room and suite categories, including the 1,798-square-foot Puʻu Poa Ocean Loft, the 1,800-square-foot Nāpali House Suite and the 2,400-square-foot two-bedroom Makana Penthouse.
