Briefs: Hostel/co-working hybrid heading to US, Mexico

Selina hybrid comes North. Selina, a hostel/co-working concept started in Panama in 2015, has announced plans to come to New York City as well as aspirations to open 15 properties in the U.S. by 2020, according to a Wednesday Real Deal New York report. Company President Yoav Gery said it signed a 20-year lease with Emmut Properties for a building at 138 Bowery to develop a 90-room hostel with 2,000 square feet of co-working space, a rooftop bar and more than 2,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Last year, Selina raised US$95 million in a Series B funding round. Selina also announced a partnership with real estate investment firm DD3 Capital Partners to open locations in Mexico.

Super week for Atlanta. Hotel room rates are projected to triple to around US$270 in the Atlanta market during the three nights of Super Bowl LIII weekend, according to STR’s Consulting & Analytics office. It said much of the approximate 350% projected gain in RevPAR will be driven by ADR growth. When compared with the eight previous Super Bowl host markets, Atlanta will be near the top of the list in terms of the number of hotel rooms available at the time of the event. However, the market’s absolute occupancy and ADR project to be among the lowest in that group of past host markets because there is more room inventory available.

Fattal likes Manchester. Israel’s Fattal Hotel Group has acquired a prominent site on Adair Street, Manchester to develop a Leonardo hotel, marking the group’s second deal in the city following its October purchase of the Midland Hotel. Scheduled to be completed in early 2021, the 275-room new hotel will be operated by Jurys Inn and Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland.

The 4.3-acre project across from the company’s open-air Downtown Summerlin mall would include a restaurant, rooftop bar and spa, county documents show.
