Ovolo in Hong Kong all in on Pokémon Go

Ovolo Southside, Hong Kong’s first warehouse conversion hotel, has opened its doors wide open to the city and the world’s Pokémon trainers with a six-week campaign that includes charging zones, a range of themed cocktails, incentives and prizes designed to encourage players to catch ‘em all.

To catch ‘em, you have to know where to find them! Starting from July 27, Ovolo Southside’s running a multi-week luring campaign in its nearby vicinity, and populating the area with a range of Pokémon. In fact, the hotel and its surrounding area will be full of Pokémon for the taking every day from 2 p.m. till 10 p.m.

Like any mobile game, it quickly drains phone batteries. To manage this, Ovolo Southside is offering Pokémon Go players the first charging zone in Hong Kong’s Southern District. Players are welcome to visit the hotel’s restaurant and rooftop bar where charging zones complete with two-metre Android (micro USB) and iPhone (Lightning + 32-pin) cables are available for free use.

The hotel’s bar, Above, is mixing up a medley of refreshing cocktails inspired by some of the game’s most beloved characters:

The Pikacho (-cho for vinegar in Cantonese) – Like jolt of lightning one could expect from Pokémon’s star character, the Pikacho cocktail combines Redbull, vodka, orange juice and a dash of apple cider vinegar in each sip.

The Bulbasour – Worthy of the sweet, ever-evolving Pokémon it gets its name from, the Bulbasour starts off with a taste of melon that’s quickly met with a punch of lemon juice and whisky, rounded off with the sweetness of Sprite and Maraschino cherries.

The Charmelon – A character as fiery as the little dragon deserves a drink named after it. The Charmelon is a twist on pineapple sangria, complete with a dash of Grenadine, a slice of melon and Jalapeno-infused simple syrup for the inevitable kick.

The Snorelax – Like the blue & green giant itself, one hit of this drink is sure to top off the night. Made of four different alcohols (vodka, rum, tequila and gin) as well blue Curacao and orange juice, the Snorelax’s probably the first and last drink one would need to order.

The Jigglypop – What Pokémon-inspired cocktail list would be complete without a character as cute as the bubbly pink one? The Jigglypop is a vodka & raspberry lemonade concoction, finished off with strawberries and a dash of blue Curacao.

It’s not enough to help trainers catch Pokémon, Ovolo Southside wants to reward them, too! Players who’ve braved the city and caught their first 15 Pokémon and proved it at the hotel, will receive 15% off dining and 30% off first drinks at the rooftop bar.

For the more ambitious players, the first 20 to catch 50 Pokémon will receive a complimentary night when they book one night at Ovolo Southside, including a free upgrade and welcome Pokémon cocktail.

But that’s not all. In celebration of the game’s Hong Kong release, the first Hong Kong player to catch all 142-some Pokémon, and snap a photo of themselves at the hotel for Ovolo Hotels’ social media channels, will win a three-day, two-night stay in the hotel’s Long Loft suite, as well as enough App Store credit for 5,200 Pokecoins.

“As a brand, Ovolo sees itself not only as a leader but as a disruptor in the hospitality industry,” said Tim Alpe, Ovolo Southside’s general manager. “We cater to the millennial demographic – guests who view us as both a place to stay and as a brand that matches their way of life. Pokémon Go’s launch offers us yet another opportunity to engage our amazing, digitally-minded fans. Just like how we revolutionized modern hospitality with our all-inclusive approach, we’re proud to be the first brand in Hong Kong embracing the great new game.”
