Seattle hotel combines Star Wars and holiday cheer

The Sheraton Seattle Hotel unveiled its 23rd annual Gingerbread Village last week, with this year’s theme of “May the Holidays be with You,” inspired by Star Wars. Although viewing the display is free to the public, the hotel is accepting donations for the Northwest chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Over the past two decades, the program has raised more than US$756,000 for the organization.

The Sheraton Seattle’s staff donates more than 1,000 volunteer hours to put on the event and the gingerbread displays use an estimated 500 pounds of dough, 600 pounds of sugar, 180 pounds of egg whites, 160 pounds of rice cereal treats and hundreds of pounds of candy. Featured architects include CallisonRTKL & Hargis, Skanska, Bailly & Bailly, 4D Architects, Master Builders/Gelotte Hommas and MG2.
