Swissôtel to manage new hotel in Olympics host city Sochi

SOCHI, RUSSIA Swissôtel Hotels & Resorts is adding another hotel to its Russia portfolio, signing a management deal for a 200-key beach resort in Sochi.

Swissôtel Sochi Kamelia will have several restaurants and bars, 1,000 sq. m of meeting space and a Pürovel Spa. The new hotel will be a reconstruction of a historic building in connection with two modern side wings, with an opening is expected by 2013, in advance of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The Sochi property is a departure for the Swissôtel brand, which typically flags city center hotels. “Most of our company’s hotels are primarily city hotels in large metropolises, but the Swissôtel Sochi Kamelia will be a beach resort in a wonderful park with old trees and a private beach,” says Swissôtel President Meinhard Huck. “I am sure individual tourists and business travelers will feel at ease here likewise.”

This is the second Russia property for Swissôtel, joining Swissôtel Krasnye Holmy, Moscow.

Swissôtel Sochi Kamelia will be owned by OAO Sistema-Hals, a real estate company that was the first Russia developer to list on the London Stock Exchange. “Swissôtel will ensure a high level in service and management for this distinguished property and certainly set a positive trend within the hospitality business on the Black Sea coast,” says Evgeny Borkin, vice president and head of the business development and strategy at OAO Sistema-Hals.
