Starwood to launch Element Hotels brand in Canada

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA Suburban Vancouver will host Canada’s first Element hotel when the 169-key Element Vancouver Metrotown debuts in 2014.

The eco-friendly brand, which launched in 2008, currently flags nine operating properties across North America. The Burnaby hotel will be owned by Bosa Properties and managed by Atlific Hotels.

Element Vancouver is located near Metrotown, which is British Columbia’s largest shopping center. The new-build hotel—which will be the tallest building in Burnaby—will feature views of Whistler, the North Shore Mountains and downtown Vancouver.

For business, Element Vancouver will have 5,500 sq. ft. of flexible meeting areas. Like all Element properties, the hotel will offer a ChargePoint electric-vehicle charging station.

“We like to say Element’s inspiring designs flow from nature, so Vancouver’s spectacular natural beauty makes a perfect setting for our first Element property in Canada,” says Brian McGuinness, senior vice president of specialty-select brands for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. “And since Vancouver just launched an initiative to become the world’s greenest city by 2020, we’re very excited for Element Vancouver Metrotown to become part of that movement.”

Element Hotels mandates that all properties pursue LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The brand is one of the first businesses in the to earn approval for a LEED-approved prototype through the new “volume build” program. With pre-approval for its building prototype, Element will be able to save its partners and developers time, money, and resources as they join Starwood in creating more eco-conscious lodging.
