SAN FRANCISCO Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has reached an agreement with San Francisco labor union Unite Here Local 2, tentatively ending a bitter dispute that has simmered since the last contract expired in August 2009.
The agreement, which requires ratification by the rank and file membership, covers The Westin St. Francis, Sheraton Palace Hotel and The St. Regis San Francisco. It does not, however, apply to W San Francisco, which is facing an upcoming renovation and potential layoffs.
The contract is identical to the one reached between the union and Hilton Worldwide last month, San Francisco Business Times reports. Wages will increase by US$2 per hour over the four years of the contract, retroactive to August 2009. The deal also includes health care coverage, increases pensions and reduces the workload for housekeepers.
