Inspired by Affinia Hotels’ partnership with Operation Smile — a nonprofit organization that provides surgeries for children and young adults worldwide born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities — a room attendant at Affinia Dumont in New York City has made a personal contribution to the effort.
Room attendant Joyce Mangal has donated US$3,000 to Operation Smile following Affinia’s announcement in May that it would work toward raising US$120,000 — equal to 500 surgeries — during its 12-month collaboration with the organization. Mangal, who does not have children of her own, said she is always looking for ways to help children in need, and her personal donation will fund 12 surgeries in conjunction with Operation Smile.
