Pittsburgh sees North America’s biggest hotel rate gain in February

NORTH AMERICA Hoteliers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, have seen booked rates spike 26% this month on discount online travel agency site Hotwire.com, the biggest year-over-year increase in North America.

A 3.5-star guestroom is averaging US$92 on Hotwire in February.

Other top booked-rate improvements on Hotwire this month include Honolulu (up 19%), Providence, Rhode Island (up 18%), Montréal (up 16%) and Toronto (up 14%).

On the other end of the spectrum, San Antonio leads the way on the price-drop list. Rooms at 3.5-star hotels in that city are selling for US$76 per night, which is 6% lower than a year ago.

Rounding out the top five rate-drops are Key West, Florida (down 6%), Albuquerque, New Mexico (down 5%), Vancouver (down 4%) and New York City (down 2%).

The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report features booking results from the second week of each month. Prices are compared within the same star rating categories for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories.
