Ocean Properties acquires Balsams resort in New Hampshire

DIXVILLE NOTCH, NEW HAMPSHIRE Tillotson Corp. has agreed to sell its 232-key Balsams Grand Resort to Ocean Properties Ltd. for an undisclosed price.

The sale, which includes approximately 7,700 acres of surrounding land, is expected close before the resort opens for the summer season.

“Ocean Properties brings an impressive track record, with a portfolio of hotels, commitment to New Hampshire, and management team to the table. They have the same passion for the Balsams that the Tillotsons had,” says Tom Deans, managing trustee of the Neil Tillotson Trust.

The all-inclusive resort offers its own 16-trail alpine ski area, two golf courses, a heated outdoor pool and swimming own Lake Gloriette. Balsams has operated for more than 150 years.

“Ocean Properties is proud to be chosen to protect and preserve The Balsams Grand Resort and its surrounding environment while stewarding its growth to sustain the resort’s jobs and economic impact on the North Country,” says Tom Varley, Ocean Properties’ senior vice president. “We are committed to burnishing The Balsams’ reputation as an international treasure whose rich history is intertwined with the prosperity of the Great North Woods and the great political tradition of the nation.”

Balsams and Dixville Notch are famous for hosting the very first primary voting during every U.S. presidential election cycle.
