Novotel Hong Kong erects Christmas tree made of 3,026 plastic bottles

HONG KONG Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong this year is substituting the traditional live Christmas tree with a 12-ft., 16-tier “green” Christmas tree constructed with 3,026 clear plastic bottles collected from the hotel guestrooms.

The tree comes alive at night and is lit-up with three energy-saving LED lights. The hotel hopes this will help raise public awareness of the current environmental issues and promoting reusing, recycling and energy-saving.

The 389-key Novotel Nathan Road Kowloon Hong Kong earned Green Globe Certification in October 2009 and is the first Novotel in China to achieve the prestigious Green Globe-certified status under the worldwide Green Globe Certification Program, which recognizes the hotel’s commitment to operating at the world’s highest environmental standards in the travel and tourism industry.
