Nightlife operator sues Chatwal for US$30m over Dream Downtown dispute

NEW YORK CITY Emm Group, a New York City-based lounge and nightclub operator, has filed a US$30 million lawsuit against Vikram Chatwal Hotels and its parent company, Hampshire Hotels & Resorts.

Emm, which manages The Chandelier Room at W Hoboken, New Jersey, among a handful of other area hotspots, claims it had a deal with Chatwal to oversee nightlife operations at the soon-to-open Downtown Dream Hotel. Instead, the contract went to rival Strategic Group, New York Post reports.

According to the lawsuit, Hampshire owner Sant Singh Chatwal shook hands with Emm representatives in October, telling the group he would prepare paperwork to formalize an agreement for Emm to operate the restaurant, nightclub, roomservice, pool deck, rooftop bar and basement lounge at the new hotel. After that meeting, Emm officials never heard from Chatwal, the lawsuit claims.

A Chatwal spokesman declined to comment, saying the company had not yet seen the lawsuit.
