Starwood signs new-builds in Canada: Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide signed two new-build properties: The Westin Calgary Airport, owned by PAL Hospitality Ltd., and The Westin Edmonton Gateway, owned by Neelam Investments Ltd. Both properties are slated to open in 2017.

Conrad Chicago added to Starwood’s Luxury Collection: Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced that the Conrad Chicago will undergo a conversion and renovation to become part of The Luxury Collection later in 2015.

Hilton to offer secondary offering: Hilton Worldwide Holdings announced it is offering 90 million shares of Hilton Worldwide common stock. Underwriters will have a 30-day option to purchase up to an additional 13.5 million shares of common stock from the selling stockholders.

Kansas City to get convention Hyatt: A US$300 million, 800-room downtown Kansas City Hyatt will open in 2018. The hotel will be located near Kansas City Convention Center’s Grand Ballroom and the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts. The city is helping to finance the hotel under a deal that caps its obligation at approximately US$2 million per year for 25 years.

Cachet grows in China: Cachet Hotel Group will open Cachet Deluxe Hangzhou in China. The 185-hey hotel and residences is scheduled to open in 2017.

JA to expand into Sri Lanka: JA Resorts & Hotels is will open a 108-room resort in Sri Lanka. Gravity Resort Group will invest US$30 million in the project while JA will be responsible for consultation and ultimately management of the resort. The property is set to open in 2017.

AMResorts adds property in Panama: Apple Leisure Group’s subsidiary AMResorts signed a resort management agreement for Secrets Playa Bonita Panama. The deal will introduce AMResorts’ adults-only Secrets Resorts & Spas brand to the region. AMResorts will assume operations and rebrand the resort in December.


Rezidor strengthens portfolio: The Rezidor Hotel Group has signed a new project in Dubai, five in Saudi Arabia and one hotel in Libya. The Libya project marks Rezidor’s re-entry into the country.
