News in brief: Hyatt Place, Scandic, Meliá

New Hyatt Place for Asheville, North Carolina: A Hyatt affiliate has entered into a franchise agreement with Parks Hospitality Group for Hyatt Place Asheville/Downtown, North Carolina. The 138-room hotel will be owned and managed by Parks Hospitality Group and is scheduled to open in 2015.

 


Scandic offers digital checkout: The company tested the new mobile checkout system in the spring and summer, and it is now available at all Scandic hotels.

 


Meliá Jamaica to open next year: Meliá will renovate the 226-room resort currently known as Braco Village Hotel & Spa on Jamaica’s north coast before opening it as Meliá Jamaica next November.

Las Vegas hotel tower demolition on hold: A Clark County judge withdrew her earlier approval of plans to raze the Harmon Hotel tower after FM Global said it would need more time to complete an in-house investigation of CityCenter’s $393.8 million claim for the hotel as a total loss. Another hearing about the matter is scheduled for December 6.
