News in brief: Accor, Starwood, Arden

Accor reports revenue down in H1, Q2:  Accor’s reported revenue for Q2 decreased 0.5% to €1.4 billion (US$1.9 billion) while reported revenue for H1 decreased 0.9% to €2.6 billion (US$3.5 billion). Like-for-like, Q2 revenue was up 3.3% and H1 revenue was up 1.8%.

Starwood profits up in Q2, H1:  Starwood Hotel & Resorts Worldwide’s net income was US$137 million in the second quarter of 2013, compared to US$122 million during the same period in 2012. In the first half of 2013, net income was US$350 million compared to US$250 million during the same period in 2012.

Arden expands in Texas:  Arden Group has purchased a stake in the 258-room Le Méridien Dallas by the Galleria from HEI Hotels & Resorts.

Fibra Inn buys 2 hotels in Mexico:  Fibra Inn bought the 155-room Hotel Camino Real Guanajuato in Bajío for 230 million pesos (US$18 million) and the 150-room Hotel Holiday Inn Puebla La Noria for 193.6 million pesos (US$15.2 million).

Starwood rebrands Sheraton in California:  Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will rebrand the Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica to Le Méridien Delfina Santa Monica. After renovations, Le Méridien will debut this fall. Viceroy Hotel Group will manage the 310-room hotel, owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust.

Miami Beach hotel closes:  After failing city safety inspections, the National Hotel, located in Miami Beach, has shut down. General manager Jacques Roy said the 154-room hotel could reopen as early as next week.

Jin Jiang expands in China:  Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotel Group Co. announced a franchise agreement to open Liangdu Jin Jiang Hotspring International Hotel. Liangdu Hotel Management will manage the 301-room hotel, set to open in late May 2014.

Jim Abrahamson named US Travel National Chair:  Interstate Hotel’s CEO Jim Abrahamson has been named the national chair of the U.S. Travel Association. Abrahamson will serve in this role through December 2014.
