New York’s first gay hotel set to open

New York City’s first gay hotel — THE OUT NYC — is set to open in early 2012, the property’s developer, Parkview Developers, announced Wednesday.

In addition to the 105-room boutique hotel, the property will include an 11,000-sq ft (1,021-sq m) lounge and cabaret nightclub and a 24-hour café/restaurant as well as three courtyards and a wellness center. Starting room rate will be approximately US$250.

“This is an idea whose time has come. What makes THE OUT NYC a gay hotel is the comfort level and tailored amenities for the community,” said Ian Reisner, managing partner at Parkview Developers. “With New York’s recent legislation, we look forward not only to hosting countless gay couples, but marrying them as well.”

In an article in the New York Times about the development, Reisner said that he was inspired to create the hotel after staying at Axel Hotel Barcelona, another gay boutique hotel in Spain.

The hotel will be located in Manhattan on 42nd Street. The nightclub is set to open before the hotel in the fall of 2011.
