LONDON Maybourne Hotel Group is “categorically not for sale,” a declaration it felt was necessary after a report in The Sunday Times of London that its sale by the Ireland government is imminent.
Maybourne is owned by Ireland’s National Asset Management Agency after the Ireland government assumed control of thousands of toxic mortgages. Maybourne’s £600 million debt had been backed by Anglo Irish Bank and Bank of Ireland. Efforts to refinance the debt are ongoing, Maybourne executives say.
Maybourne owns a trio of London’s most prestigious hotels: Claridge’s, The Connaught and The Berkeley.
