Marriott contest winner crafts healthy vending machine

Marriott Hotels has announced the grand prize winner of its Travel Brilliantly Co-Creation Program, which invited consumers to submit bold travel ideas via TravelBrilliantly.com.

After receiving more than 700 submissions, a panel of judges — Shira Lazar, host of “What’s Trending,” Marc Kushner, co-founder of Architizer, and Matthew Von Ertfelda, vice president of innovation at Marriott — awarded the top prize to Anjana Kallarackal of Roswell, Georgia, who submitted the concept of a healthy vending machine that would deliver quick, nutritious food options.

Kallarackal will travel to the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square in November to work with Housebites, a sustainable food company that delivers fresh and locally sourced recipe ingredients to consumers, in addition to the hotel’s Executive Chef Jamie Welch and other innovators to further develop her idea. She will also take part in an innovation work session alongside industry experts from relevant fields including technology, design and culinary. After the trip, Kallarackal’s idea, along with a behind-the-scenes video on the development process, will be featured on TravelBrilliantly.com, and the brand expects to launch a prototype of the concept at select Marriott hotels in the future.
