Art in hotels is becoming increasingly commonplace, but Huvafen Fushi and Niyama in the Maldives are taking art to a new frontier: the depths of the sea.
The Per Aquum properties are showcasing visual artist Andreas Franke’s Phantasy Fairytale underwater art exhibition until the end of May. The exhibition combines photography, nautical exploration and digital artistry to produce underwater scenes where Western fairytale characters such as Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood are superimposed against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean. Each photographic piece is sealed with Plexiglass in stainless-steel frames and can be seen from inside the underwater music club Subsix at Niyama and inside the underwater Lime spa at Huvafen Fushi.

Guests can also purchase the artwork for prices starting at US$12,000; reprints are available starting at US$4,800. A percentage of proceeds from purchases will be donated to Per Aquum’s Coral Regeneration Program.
