Leela launches midscale hotel brand targeting religious pilgrims

MUMBAI Hotel Leelaventure Ltd. is planning to launch a midscale hotel brand called Leela Gardens that will be aimed primarily at religious pilgrims.

The brand, which is expected to debut by 2013, would mark the luxury operator’s first foray into the midscale segment. As many as 30 to 40 Leela Gardens properties would open in India’s pilgrimage markets, including Banaras, Mysore, Haridwar, Rishikesh and Nalanda, Press Trust of India reports.

The operational structure of the brand is still under development, but Leelaventure is considering an asset-light strategy.

Samyukta Nair, the granddaughter of 90-year-old Leelaventure founder Captain CP Krishnan Nair, is heading up the brand launch.
