HOTELS sneak peak inside W Paris – Opéra

W Hotels Worldwide will debut in France in February with the opening of W Paris – Opéra, and HOTELS has obtained an exclusive sneak peak inside the property.

The five-story property will have 91 guestrooms including 20 suites and two Extreme WOW Suites. Owned by Barcelona-based Meridia Capital, the hotel is set inside a Haussman-era heritage building from the 1870s. Meridia Capital was advised on the project by GCA Architects, and the hotel was designed jointly by W Global Brand Design and Rockwell Group Europe led by Diego Gronda, its managing and creative director.

Situated across the street from the Opéra Garnier, W Paris – Opéra features a design that revolves around an oversized backlit digital undulating wall that defines the central core of the building and weaves through the public and private spaces. The wall will be set at various tempos to create different moods to match the season, event, time of day and location within the hotel. The elevators, DJ booth and staircases will be cloaked in red.

Historic features of the building such as ornamented columns, vaulted ceilings, marble staircases and fireplaces have been partially restored and often juxtaposed against contemporary elements. The original stained glass windows and mosaic flooring on the second floor will be protected to reflect the building’s heritage.

“For the first W Hotel in Paris, we wanted to provide guests with an unforgettable experience of the light and sophistication present all over this amazing city,” Gronda said. “Our design feeds off the elegance, richness and radiance of Paris while layering in the contemporary cool and free-spirited energy of New York.”

W Paris – Opéra also has launched a digital lifestyle magazine, “The Switch,” which features articles, playlists, interviews and reports on insider events and the best-kept secrets of Paris. Fashion designer Yazbukey will be one of the first “Paris insiders” to be featured in the magazine.
