Honolulu’s landmark Pagoda gets new owner, joins Aqua Hotels

HONOLULU The 359-key Pagoda Hotel is getting a new owner, management company and flag.

The landmark property will be managed by Kai Management Services LLC and will fly the Aqua Hotels & Resorts flag. New owner Peter Savio plans to spend at least US$6 million renovating the hotel’s restaurant and other areas of the property.

“Pagoda Hotel has been a part of the island lifestyle for decades,” says Bill Henderson, Aqua’s vice president of development. “Many kamaaina [Hawaii resident] families, including mine, have at one time or another enjoyed dining at the floating restaurant, been to a wedding reception or graduation in the ballroom or booked a few nights at the hotel for visiting relatives. It’s always been a place where friends and family felt at home and, with the support of their longtime employees, we are looking forward to bringing back that level of easy comfort and hospitality.”

Aqua’s sales and marketing team has come up with suggestions for specials and promotions that will be appealing to a variety of market segments, including kamaaina and groups, says Elizabeth Churchill, Aqua’s vice president of sales and marketing. “Pagoda Hotel has plenty to offer consumers and we’re excited to be marketing this unique and iconic property,” she says.
