Grupo Carso acquires U.S. hotel ahead of real estate spinoff

MEXICO CITY Grupo Carso SAB is splitting off its real estate and mining units next week, and it has added a Florida property to its hotel portfolio ahead of the spinoff.

Carso, the holding company controlled by billionaire Carlos Slim, has acquired a Ramada-flagged hotel in Kissimmee, Florida. It will operate as part of Carso’s Ostar Grupo Hotelero, which includes five luxury hotels and resorts in Mexico.

The hotel was acquired in September, but was only announced this week in a regulatory filing. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Carso’s real estate unit will be called Immuebles Carso SAB and will be headed by CEO Gerardo Kuri Kaufmann, 27.
