France considers converting royal chateaux into hotels

PARIS Cash-strapped France is considering turning some of its royal chateaux into luxury hotels as a way to generate additional income.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy had commissioned a report suggesting ideas on generating revenue from the country’s many historic sites. The report, which is being considered by France’s culture minister, includes a propose to turn the Chambord and Rambouillet chateaux into high-end lodging.

The report also suggests promoting the sites as film settings and to sell some property to private investors.
