NEW YORK CITY CitizenM Hotels, the technologically-forward budget brand based in Amsterdam, has selected a site for its first property outside Europe.
CEO Michael Levie tells HOTELS that the firm has a deal with Brack Capital to flag a hotel project in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The project at 185-191 Bowery will have approximately 315 guestrooms and is expected to open in the second half of 2013.
A second CitizenM in New York City, at 50th and Broadway in Times Square, is also under development. In London, CitizenM has secured two development sites, at the South Bank near the Tate Modern Museum and on Tower Hill.
There are currently three CitizenM Hotels open—two in Amsterdam and one in Glasgow. The company, which launched in 2008, is aiming for 20 properties by 2015. Besides New York and London, other top targets for expansion are Paris, Hong Kong, Zürich and Milan.
