Carlson expects to add 15 India hotels next year

INDIA Carlson plans to open at least 15 hotels in India next year, a step toward its expectation of having more than 100 hotels in operation in the country by 2015.

Carlson has opened three hotels in India so far this year, with another five scheduled to debut before the end of 2010. “We are delighted to be bringing great hotels to market across our brands and to have such a strong infrastructure and team here in India,” says President and CEO Hubert Joly.

Anticipated openings for the remainder of 2010 include the 178-key Radisson Hotel New Delhi Paschim Vihar, the 120-key Radisson Hotel Rudrapur, the 73-key Country Inn & Suites Gurgaon Sector 12, the 94-key Park Plaza Ahmedabad and the 80-key Park Plaza Faridabad.

Carlson, which is India’s largest international hotel company, has also signed two new hotel agreements, for the 275-key Radisson Blu Hotel Mumbai Malad and the 110-key Park Plaza Coimbatore.

Owned by American Spring and Pressing Works Private Ltd., construction of the US$52 million Radisson Blu Hotel Mumbai Malad will begin immediately, with the hotel expected to open in 2014. It will fea include an all-day dining restaurant, two specialty food outlets, a tea lounge and a 10,000-sq.-ft. banquet and meeting facility.

Owned by Sabari Inn Private Ltd., the US$15 million Park Plaza Coimbatore is scheduled to open next year. It will feature four suites, 14 deluxe and 92 executive rooms. Food and beverage options will include a restaurant, coffee shop, rooftop restaurant and bar. There will also be two banquet halls that can accommodate up to 500 guests each, as well as two board rooms seating up to 40 people.

Highlights of future hotel openings include:

Radisson Hotel Agra, located in the city of Uttar Pradesh and in close proximity to the Taj Mahal. The 140-key hotel will comprise an all day dining and specialty restaurant, bar and tea lounge, as well as more than 10,000 sq. ft. of banquet and meeting facilities, and a spa.

Radisson Hotel Amritsar, located adjacent to Raja Sansi International Airport and nearby tourist attractions such as the Golden Temple. The 186-key hotel will offer 24 suites and 162 guestrooms.

The 175-key Radisson Hotel Greater Noida includes an all day dining restaurant, two specialty restaurants, a bar, a tea lounge, a fitness center and a 7,000-sq.-ft. banquet and meeting facility.

Owned by Rajesh Business and Leisure Hotels Ltd., the 335-key Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Mumbai Powai will be designed by internationally acclaimed architect Hafeez Contractor. The hotel will offer all-day dining, three specialty restaurants and a tea lounge, along with a wellness and spa facility.

Country Inns and Suites by Carlson Gurgaon National Highway 8 is a 200-key hotel with restaurants, a fitness center, spa, outdoor swimming pool and conference and banquet facilities.
