Accor developing 8 Ibis hotels throughout Vietnam

VIETNAM Accor is moving ahead with plans to expand its Ibis economy hotel brand in Vietnam, announcing plans for eight properties in conjunction with developer Benthanh Group.

The partnership between the two companies was announced earlier this year. Construction is now under way on Ibis Saigon Centre in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 1, scheduled to open in 2012. Other Ibis properties are under development in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, and Binh Duong.

“We see significant potential for expansion in the economy hotel sector in Vietnam and intend to secure a prominent presence in this segment of the hotel industry throughout the country,” says Nguyen Quang Tien, general director of Benthanh Group.

Vietnam forecasts 5 million international tourists this year, and when combined with domestic travel, totals close to 22 million trips.

“Vietnam is experiencing a period of consistently strong domestic growth and significant foreign investments. These factors are driving demand for business and leisure travel from both domestic and international markets,” says Patrick Basset, Accor’s regional vice president of operations. “As this new network evolves throughout the country, it will provide a consistent and affordable accommodation option to travelers.”
