2 long-delayed Milwaukee hotel projects to resume

MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN A pair of hotel projects, proposed two years ago for the Milwaukee area but on hold due to the recession, are resuming.

An as-yet-unflagged 110-key hotel near General Mitchell International Airport is set to begin construction early next year after developer Trapani Construction Co. has finally lined up financing for the project, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Separately, construction is due to begin next week on a long-delayed 120-key Courtyard by Marriott property on the city’s south side. Scheduled to open next autumn, the property is owned by GMF Hotel LLC and will be managed by Hospitality Specialists Inc.

A recent surge in air traffic at Milwaukee’s airport has spurred demand for hotel inventory there and has made financing acquisition marginally easier, the newspaper reports. Other newly launched airport-area hotels include a 143-key Hilton Garden Inn, a 95-key Candlewood Suite and a 119-key Fairfield Inn & Suites.
