Year in review

As we near the end of 2013, the saying “time flies when you’re having fun” certainly rings true — especially in the hospitality industry.  

Our year — or, more specifically, days, nights, hours, minutes and seconds — is tirelessly spent making magic for our guests. No two days seem to be alike in our industry, which is what makes for an exciting, challenging, fast-paced and fun day at the office — every day. With an abundance of shared knowledge and experiences from 2013, how are you looking ahead to the New Year, for the next 365 days ahead?

Whether in your personal or professional life, this is the time of year to reflect, evaluate and adjust your goals for continued and future success. Many people feel extremely motivated to make a fresh start — or fast break — in the New Year. As a business leader, it’s important to take advantage of this energy, excitement and motivation not just for yourself, but for your team. Lead by example! A key strategy is to identify achievements and setbacks and adjust accordingly for a fruitful start and continuation throughout the year.  

In Lana’i, highlights this year include everything from opening new restaurants such as ONE Forty and Nobu Lana’I and creating an organic Nobu Garden to restyling our entire team’s uniforms, including swapping slacks for a more fitting tropical Bermuda shorts look. We learned, perfected and accomplished. Most importantly, each project, promotion or initiative we experienced allows us to improve upon in the year to come. It may not be the same project, but we can acquire insight from our experiences and instill confidence in ourselves — and our team — to accomplish our goals.

In these last few days of the year, take a good hard look at your year in review. Gather your triumphs and tribulations from 2013, learn from the experiences and move on. Reflect on the past, be in the present but most importantly, positively impact the future. As for us here in Lana’i, the future is bright!
