There are many social networking channels, but it’s no secret LinkedIn is the largest professional social network. With an impressive 277 million users worldwide and growing fast, the site is primarily used — at least at first — by those seeking employment or new employees. 

For the hotel business, LinkedIn is a phenomenal tool for recruiting, connecting with the travel industry and staying informed of the latest news and trends as they relate to hospitality and your career. However, what are you doing to keep not just yourself, but also your business, top of mind?

At one point in time, the vast majority of Four Seasons Resorts Lanai’s leaders had individual LinkedIn accounts (which in many cases contributed to their hiring), and while the employees were linked together in part due to their Four Seasons status, there wasn’t a cohesive thread surrounding the resort. Noticing this void, we created a Four Seasons Resorts Lanai Groups page. In addition to the employees joining the group, we invited their individual LinkedIn networks to join as well. The Four Seasons Resorts Lanai Groups profile page was born. Now in its second year, the page has continued to flourish and is a vital PR, marketing and networking tool for the resort with more than 2,850 users to date and counting. 

The group not only has allowed Four Seasons Lanai professionals to connect, but it also allows business-to-business connections that benefit Lanai as a destination. Four Seasons Resorts Lanai uses the forum to share the latest news and trends, from special events to special offers. For our Four Seasons Lanai LinkedIn Group members it is a place where relevant and important info on the destination and island trends are curated so there is no need to search other channels. Travel consultants, for example, benefit from this insider knowledge and are able to confidently update their clients about the latest happenings on island. The page is well managed, and the activity levels and engagement are fluid, with activity posted and conversations started almost daily. Additionally, the group consists of hoteliers, travel consultants, meeting planners, event specialists, business leaders, vendors and more. The group has enabled us to stay engaged with a key community and stay top of mind in a social media minute.
