Recognizing top employees
Technology has made it easier than ever for us to recognize and celebrate a job well done on the part of hotel employees. In an innovative “You’re Hired” promotion we have just completed, we invited past guests of all of our Trump Hotel Collection properties to visit a microsite we set up and nominate an employee who had made a stay in one of our hotels especially memorable for them.
The response was outstanding, with associates nominated from all of our hotels including the two in New York and one each in Chicago, Las Vegas and Waikiki. The winner: James Opoku, a 13-year veteran of Trump International Hotel & Tower New York.
The doorman was nominated by a past guest from Greenville, South Carolina, who had this to say about James:
“James was exceptional. We were greeted, by name, every time we entered or exited the hotel. On top of that … he was especially kind to our children (ages 3 and 5). Their favorite picture from New York was not in Times Square, at the Yankee game or at the Statue of Liberty; their picture with James is the one they have in their rooms in little frames. He is AMAZING … We can’t wait to return.”
What made this promotion work so well — and why I recommend it — is the combination of incentive and reward. The guest incentive was the chance to win a two-night stay in a one-bedroom suite at either of our New York hotels, including roundtrip airfare for two, a bottle of champagne and a three-course dinner for two either at Jean Georges (in Trump International Hotel & Tower New York) or Quattro Gastronomia Italia (in Trump SoHo New York).
And the reward for James? Exactly the same prize. The promotion was simple and effective and the theme relevant to our brand … not to mention inspiring to our associates, who appreciated the opportunity to be recognized for their good work.
