People are talking

People are talking

Bonnie Raitt?s 1991 hit, ?Something to Talk About,? began with the song lyrics, ?People are talking, talking ?bout people ??
Ten years later, people are talking to people on Facebook in record numbers (more than 800 million of them) so it?s only appropriate that Facebook has just rolled out its ?People are Talking About? metric for Facebook pages.

The new measure of fan engagement, which is displayed publicly on Facebook pages next to the number of ?Likes? a page has, indicates the number of people who have interacted with the page (by commenting or sharing a post, for example) over the course of the past seven days. It?s meant to encourage pages to create genuinely engaging content. By clicking on the ?Insights Tab,? page admins can see how many people have interacted with each specific wall post, providing useful feedback on the types of posts that are proving interesting to fans.

For hotels that have built out a fan base through sweepstakes, contests and Facebook ads, Facebook is throwing down the gauntlet and saying, ?It?s not enough to just accumulate likes.?

Engage your fans with authentic, compelling content. Offer them timely customer service on social platforms. Create special incentives. As Bonnie Raitt sang in the chorus to our song of the day, ?Let?s give them something to talk about.?
