This is a great picture! Executive Chairman J.W. Marriott Jr., cutting the ribbon on the 4,000th Marriott hotel, which is located at the company’s roots in Washington, D.C.
The Marriott Marquis Washington, D.C., has been almost 90 years in the making and truly signifies how far this global industry has come. It all started for the family not far from this site, where founders J. Willard and Alice Marriott opened a nine-seat A&W Root Beer stand 87 years ago.
To see the legend on hand to launch this hotel is a moment in hotel industry history to remember. It shows how far the industry has come, the growing diversity of its leadership and how the industry has matured with new products that meet the ever-changing needs of its consumers.
Congratulations to Mr. Marriott and his team. Long may you run.
