Hot Moscow: Sign a waiver before getting your food

I always find it intriguing that our Russian restaurateurs are not afraid of anything when it comes to food, among other things! Case in point: this casual burger restaurant, Black Star Burger, named after a famous Russian rapper.

To start: great burgers (the tagline of the shop is “hot and juicy”). The sourcing is halal for the beef, lamb or chicken. And it certainly is true that they are really juicy – so juicy in fact that black plastic gloves have been provided! Nice touch.

I will refrain from commenting on the false tattoos on the chefs’ arms (you know these printed tissues supposed to look like a tattoo … ugh!).

The real surprise, though, comes when ordering: If you take the “chicken wings super hot,” you must sign a waiver before getting your food! What might sound like a gimmick is in fact a true legal commitment NOT to share it or give it to anyone in your entourage: Your order is your meal only! Indeed, the meal can be so hot (the chicken wings in particular), I suppose that the restaurateur doesn’t want someone who did not sign the waiver to be in a position to sue them in case of a problem.

Customers must sign a legal discharge to be able to order the spicy chicken!

I’ve never seen yet such a waiver in a restaurant anywhere else in the world. Have you?

Hot and juicy – a clear marketing promise!

P.S.: Thank you, Guillaume Erblang-Rotaru, for the pictures.
