Flower power

As designers, we often spend a lot of our time working on the physical layout, millwork and soft furnishings in a hotel. Then comes the coordination with various consultants and operational considerations.

But when I walk into a hotel for the first time, my attention is often drawn to something beyond the physical design work, particularly in some of the renowned hotels in Europe.

On a recent trip, I visited a number of renowned hotels from Monte Carlo to Prague, and each property impressed me with its unique and eye-catching floral arrangements.

Some were quite subtle and understated while others were an amazing display of vibrant colors. The only thing in common was the displays changed almost on a daily basis.

Beautiful floral arrangements can sometimes be far more striking than the piece of artwork worth millions just adjacent to them. And the freshness of a seasonal bloom simply has a magical power that adds a delightful smile on your face to begin or end a hectic day.
