Branson restates vision for sexy hotels in space

British entrepreneur Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic is setting out to create the world’s first “spaceline,” so it’s no wonder that he would envision a hotel that his interplanetary rockets could fly to.

In an interview with Mashable UK, the Virgin Hotels founder said that in a hundred years’ time he figures that humans would have colonized a planet such as Mars and built hotels in space – with a few key modifications.

“I’d like to have really sexy Virgin hotels in space where people can go and stay in pods, head off in little spaceships around the moon, where they wake up in the morning and then they go back to their pods in the evening,” he told Mashable.

Branson, 66, said he wants Virgin Galactic to be involved in deep space exploration. The company’s space plane, SpaceShipTwo, undertook a test flight in September over the Mojave desert in California, its first since a test flight in 2014 killed a pilot and setting back the company’s progress. It’s too early to say when the company would be ready to provide commercial flights, at US$250,000 per ticket.
