Briefs: IHG in India | Hyatt in Malta

IHG adds two in India: Hotel Paraag Ltd. signed an agreement to add IHG flags to two hotels in Bengaluru, India. According to the India Times, both will be operating by the first quarter of 2022. The 265-room InterContinental Bengaluru Whitefield is a new-build; the Crowne Plaza Bengaluru Raj Bhaven Road, a conversion, will have 140 rooms following an extensive renovation. IHG’s India portfolio includes 36 hotels across four brands and a pipeline of more than 40 set to open in the next several years.

Hyatt plants a flag in Malta: Malta’s first Hyatt-branded hotel will open in the coastal destination of St. Julian’s, thanks to a franchise deal with Bay Street Holdings Ltd. The 153-room resort is expected to debut in 2021. The Hyatt Regency Malta will join a swelling European portfolio that includes the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée, the soon-to-open Hyatt Regency Barcelona Fira and Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid, and the recently announced Hyatt Regency Lisbon.

Wynn wins go-ahead in Boston: Wynn Resorts has the green light to open the nearly US$3B Encore Boston Harbor. On Wednesday, after inspecting the gaming facilities, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission authorized the operator to conduct three trial gambling days. The Everett resort officially opens June 23. Wynn recently paid the state a record US$35.5M in fines for failing to disclose the allegations of sexual misconduct against company founder Steve Wynn.

Simply solar in India: Two Oberoi Hotels & Resorts properties are converting to 100% solar power. The Oberoi, Gurgaon and Trident, Gurgaon will run on energy provided by a captive, 25-acre power plant where 27,000 power panels will generate 7.5 megawatts of electricity. The goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 12,344 tons a year.
